I see that Hillary Clinton is now supporting John McCain's idea of a gas tax 'holiday' this summer. She wants some tax on oil companies as a buffer, or some such thing, but it's basically the same thing.
Now, as an issue, I'm sure a Democratic candidate will score more points for boldly dropping the gas tax than for boldly dropping the Rev. Wright. But it's hard to see how 'me too' beats John McCain.
And I honestly don't see the holiday, of course -- the only guy who gets a break is the guy who has to go out an raise the price listed on the sign. Oil companies will almost certainly raise their prices to make up for the 20 cent break, so maybe the sign won't change for a week. Beyond that, much ado about nothing.
But what interest me is that it's hard to compare the plans, since near as I can tell, neither Clinton nor McCain has actually submitted them as a bill to Congress.
Which, as I understand it, is something senators can do.
