Democrats, I think it's time to stop whining about how the American people have to one day see through this type of lying politics and take off the kid gloves.
And Barack, that means you.
We heard way too much at the Democratic Convention about how good and honorable McCain was. He's calling you a pedophile-enabler, dude. Man up.
His people are dismissing every criticism about Palin's earmarks and bride as sexism. Remember how he accused you of playing the race card? Well, they really are playing the gender card.
But it's not just you. Every Democrat who praised his honor at the convention needs to be out every day with a retraction. This campaign is sinking lower than the last presidential race.
And it's because low politics win. And we don't like to go there. And Republicans know we don't like to go there, and want us to act nice while they beat us up.
The Dixie Chicks put it well:
"I’m not ready to make nice
I’m not ready to back down
I’m still mad as hell and
I don’t have time to go round and round and round
It’s too late to make it right
I probably wouldn’t if I could
‘Cause I’m mad as hell
Can’t bring myself to do what it is you think I should"
Yes, I know, we'd rather talk issues. Health care. War and peace. We'd rather be noble and proud. Maybe the American people will stop listening to the slander.
Barack can wait with John Kerry and Al Gore for that to happen.
Yes, kids should be off limits. But John McCain has told nasty jokes about Chelsea Clinton. Why does he get a pass?
And it's not sexist to criticism his choice of a running mate and hold her to his record.
Yes, he doesn't have a health care plan or an education plan or, well, any other actual plan. But the voters have sided with us on issues going years back. We still got Bush.
McCain's houses, that was a good issue for today's politics. How about Cindy's $300,000 dress while McCain claimed to work hard to working people? What about shooting wolves from helicopters and calling for a crusade in the middle east -- as Palin has done, or close enough.
And I'm sorry, but isn't there someone who can put out an Internet with photos of the Palins and the various comments by Rushbo, OReilly and such about nontraditional families.
This is the difference between them and us. If we put a pregnant 17 year old on stage at the convention, they would never let go of it. It would be shocking. Ugly.
I'm not defending it, mind you. But I am frustrated. They do those sorts of things. We appeal to people's better natures.
They also win the presidential elections.
edited for one add: The Obama camp has barely mentioned her husband's membership in a party that wants to secede from the U.S. How many times have we heard about Michele being more proud than she ever has about the U.S.
Pick an attack, pound it home.
